Rated 1 out of 5 by This is a strange device of little obvious use. I already have an older style contact moisture meter (with the pins) so I do have a not bad reference. Not even the person who wrote the manual knew what was going on.The 'Measurement Range' is given as "0-99.9% WME (Wood Moisture Equivalent) for wood" when in fact WME is for materials other than wood. It isn't clear to me whether in fact the two settings, "wood" versus "building materials" are backwards in the device, because even kiln-dried building material (say 2 by 4's) doesn't give readings below about 25% (on "wood"). There is also the problem that the readings are different with wood depending on whether the meter is held parallel to the wood grain or perpendicular. The values are about twice as high with the meter held along the grain (long axis) as with it across the grain. A lot of wood gives 99.9% on the scale which I think is pretty ridiculous. If you use the "building materials" setting with wood the numbers are closer to what you get with a contact meter but in that setting the readings seem too low, depending on the orientation of the meter. I also find it hard to figure out why there would be a noticeable difference (sometimes) in measuring moisture in red building brick in different orientations, but there is. I really can't see what good this thing would be to anyone. October 26, 2013
