Product Details

HD•15 high-definition electronic earplugs are engineered for persons working around continuous loud noises such as power tools, machinery, trucks, or construction equipment. They aim to provide maximum protection from loud impact noise, while also providing natural hearing when no background noise is present. They allow natural hearing until noise exceeds safe-exposure limits, whereupon they automatically activate to 15-dB hearing protection, with maximum protection from sudden, loud impact noise. At the flip of a switch sound is amplified, improving distance detection up to five times for enhanced awareness of your surroundings.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 3reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Favorite tool purchase of the year So I work in a heavy equipment shop with frequent high levels of noise. I found these little beauties and was iffy about paying so much, but figured it was worth a try. My choices were either not be able to hear my future grand children, or not be safe due to not being able to hear the people around me and wear normal earplugs. I wear these 13+ hours a day 7 days a week for multiple weeks in a work rotation, and have really run them through the wringer.First the bad- they are like hearing aids in that they have problems with moisture. After wearing them a few days in a row in high humidity, within a few hours of putting them in they would rapidly deminish in volume and soon be just like normal earplugs. After working with customer service (very helpful) and doing a little research on my own, I found a little product called Dry Caddy, a small desiccant tub. By placing them in that over night, no more problems! Also, at excessively high sustained noise levels they emit a crackling sound which is rather annoying, and I wish they would just cut out entirely. Also, the only ear tips I have achieved good sound reduction with are the foam ones. The others do a little, but in my opinion, not enough, which is a pity as I prefer the convince of the flange type. The good- I am a audiophile, and these have astoundingly good sound reproduction in both settings. They tend to reduce common levels of sound by just a tiny little bit, but if you don't have exceptionally good hearing, you may not notice. They are comfortable and light, and using the dry caddy at night I have gotten battery life longer than advertised, even with my heavy use. I have even found a way to clip a headphone onto it so I can listen to a audio book, and it still does it's job just fine. If the noise level goes up, it just seems like the volume of the media goes down. Really it's pretty cool. You can't tell they are doing anything unless you know how loud things are normally. If you want to test them, hit two wrenches together, and you can hear the background noise drop, and then rapidly and smoothly rise again. Finally, I haven't found myself using the boost setting much, but it is fun to play with. October 13, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Works in the working field They work great around equipment, grinding, and other shop noise June 25, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Wind noise problems The plugs work fine in still air, but wind noise is such a problem that the plugs are practically useless. The wind is almost always a factor here limiting there usefulness. June 6, 2013
