Customer Reviews

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 2reviewers.
Rated 2 out of 5 by The Clean remote is known for its easy wipe surface and hidden battery compartment. But is it really worth the high price? As you can get regular remotes for much cheaper (less then half); better quality, screw in battery cover, with no programming required and even with optional security cable attachments. When handling the Clean remote I noticed a few things that seems to bother me.1. The battery compartment. As it was a clever idea to make the battery compartment hidden from guests; its seems it's not the best option. It still can easily be found. When guests really need an extra pair of batteries, the hidden battery compartment will be found. With no screw or way of keeping them out, they will try and open and possibly even break the lens off to get to the batteries. Now your spending more money on not just replacing the batteries but possibly the remote. Not to mention because the batteries load in from the top, this makes the remote top-heavy. In most remotes the battery compartment is located at the bottom, and sits in your hand nicely. I dropped this remote 3 times due to the awkwardness while setting it up as I, like most people, hold the remote near the bottom of it. It seems to want to fall out of your hand.2. Programming. Starlight Electronics LLC did a good job designing this remote to be as simple as possible for programming. But is it too simple? No codes are necessary, or even included if you wanted to use them. Any curious guest can hold down the setup button for a few seconds and DE-program it. If your codes are near the end of the code database, you might have to stand there holding the setup button for as long as 2 minutes before it programs. If it had a code to input, one could be done programming the remote in as little as 5 seconds. Now think, you have every other TV in your hotel to do. If you like this simple setup method, don't limit yourself, as every universal remote that I have ever programmed comes with this same similar, "no codes needed," setup method.3. IR range of signal. Not the best. As you can see that the IR sensor is almost 1/2 inch inside the top of the remote. This is the furthest inside I have ever seen and IR sensor on a remote. Most remotes have their IR sensor protruding from the top of the case so it gets the largest range of signal. The clean remote IR sensor is placed way inside the remote due to the fact that it is sharing the battery compartment with it. This can be inconvenient for guests as they may be accustomed to their home remote with much better range. Pointing the remote directly at the TV and trying multiple times can get irritating.4. Cardboard Stand. I believe this is a good idea, as it informs the guests that the remote has been cleaned and sanitized and it gives the remote a noticeable eye-catching appearance. But, yes here it comes, but because the stand is made from cardboard, it is light weight and cannot be cleaned. I noticed when grabbing the clean remote from the stand I had to hold the stand down with my left hand as I grabbed the remote out. Was the stand cleaned? Probably not. Again, its made out of cardboard and most likely will not hold up, but only for a couple of cleans. If the stand came with some sticky tape to go underneath, this would most likely solve the problem. In my opinion, there are better choices if you don't mind sacrificing the wipeable surface. If the Clean remote had a regular battery cover with a screw to secure it; along with more enhanced programming abilities, this remote would be a true winner. But, until some competition comes out, the Clean remote is the only option. The better competitor is the RR1H by Anderic as of right now, but it does not have the easy wipe surface. July 24, 2012
