Electric/Recoil Gasoline Portable Generator, 8000 Rated Watts, 10,000 Surge Watts, 120/240VAC is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 79.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Overheats with less than 90 hours run ti\me Bought generator 5 years ago and used it for a few hours here and there during power outages. Have changed the oil every year, and also started it up 2-3 times a year if not been used, to let it run for a few minutes to keep the gas flowing. I only connect it into a panel via the 30A 240V circuit (max wattage possible = 7200W) and it's only powering a fridge, a few light circuits, and a well pump, so definitely not overloaded. It's got less than 90 hours run time on it. Lost power this past Friday, fired the generator up and it ran for about 10 hours and then quit in the middle of the night. I checked gas, oil, air filter, and everything looked fine. Took it into my local service store Saturday morning. They looked at it that afternoon and called me to say that the engine had overheated and had gotten so hot that it had melted the insulation off the spark plug wire, and damaged the carburetor and other internal parts, and the engine would need to be replaced. I called Briggs and Stratton, but since it's 3+ years out of warranty they are not willing to do anything. I'm not sure how many people would get enough continuous run time on a generator inside of the 2 year warranty to see if there are any issues with it. I know I didn't. DON'T BUY!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from LEEKS GAS AT CARBURETOR Purchased 5 years ago . Have had the carburetor fixed and rebuilt 3 times in the 5 years .Every so often I would run it gas would pour out around carb .Repair company told me junk parts in carb. Todays gas ruins them. So far it has cost us over half the purchase price to repair it..Will not buy Briggs and Stratton again no confidence . Do not buy

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Small corners cut Have had this machine now 3yrs. Have managed to put 18hrs on it with no problems motor or generator wise, and it runs my house easily. My issue is with the plastics and rubbers on cables and covers and knobs. The first thing that went was the plastic knob on the locking pin for the pull handle. It cracked and fell off. Price for new plastic knob and shipping cost more than the one I had machined in metal that will last forever. Then I noticed the sheathing on the main cable from the generator where it comes out is broken and cracking. Then the connector for the cover for the trickle charger plug broke, so now it's kept on a shelf, and finally while doing some routine maintenance cleaning the carburetor I found the rubber boot on the cable to the low oil shut off solenoid all cracked and split. A sorry state for something that costs as much as it does and when needed will have to be exposed to the elements even if only marginally.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from In the dark without it We just bought a house on 20 acres out in the country. Luckily it came with a transfer box, and wouldn't you know it, our first weekend there we got hit with a bad storm. Took out the hydro for everyone within a 75 kilometer radious. After quickly setting up our new B&S 8K and hooking it up. (The electric start is a bonus) We flipped the switch. And "Let there be light" No problem with draw. Fridge, freezer, water pump, furnace fan, water heater, wall receptacle & lights. No hick ups. After 28 hours on the hour meter and 2 full tanks of gas the hydro was restored. The only negative thing I have to say is it's loud (need to improve the muffler, thus not 5 star). Great price point. But I'm happy to have it. The first thing I did was change the oil. I recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Completely Satisfied I bought my 8000 last fall and couldn't be more pleased with the reliability of this unit. I never had any concern that it would not start when and if I needed it. A great unit.
