Walk Behind Mower,Self-Propel,21 In Cut is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent mower Bought this from a local dealer in 2016. Our yard is 5 lots and the grass grows thick. This mower handles it without any issue. The Subaru engine has been superb, doesn't bog down and propels it easily, cuts cleanly. No-nonsense with nice features, but simple to operate. My only knock is the side discharge chute was tricky the first time I set it up. Now that I know how to do it, no problemo. I was surprised to read some of the negative reviews. I wonder how many of those machines were set up by a technician at a dealer? Mine has been flawless and easy to own and operate. My friend who owns a landscaping business liked it so he bought one for using in spots they can't get with the zero-turn. Between the two of us we have put the mower through it's paces for 2 summers now and it has been excellent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very very solid. Upon delivery on 7/6/15 I put it together (very easy) then the next day I cut the grass. The Subaru engine started on the first pull then I started to bag the front, all I can say is wow this beast manicured my front yard perfect. Well now I proceeded to the back and mulched it and again wow no clumps and one perfect job. The model I bought is Ariens Razor model 911188 and compared to my Lawn boy there is no comparison. So in conclusion I would highly recommended this Lawn Mower.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from not so happy Purchased this three years ago, and basically used two summesr... so far, the back wheel fell off twice, the side chute tabs broke( they sent me a new one), and now the side chute mulching cover mechanism with the spring broke...I see they changed the mechanism on the newer models....but I cant get that spring back in for the life of me, since the hole is worn and keeps slipping out...Ariens told me to take it in for repairs. Cant wait o see what that costs. Also as mentioned...back gears dont feel right ...going to have to look at that too. And yes, should be a better way to change the oil...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disapointed re poor design on 911177 We bought this machine for use on our .4 acre lot which is surrounded by trees, brushes and bushes. In less than 5 hours of use, a branch pierced the rear wheel plastic back-plate and the inside of the wheel filled up with debris blocking the drive gear to the wheel gear. Although the other wheel back plate was not damaged, it was also filled with debris jamming the gears. The back plates' mounting is really flimzy and allows seperation from the wheels. This design flaw (my opinion) will force me to remove the wheels several times a season for clean up and inspection of the gears; unexpected additional maintenance I can do without. An aluminum version of the back plate or a better gear protection system should be considered by Ariens' Engineers. I am not doing anything different with this machine than I was with my 11-year old hydrostatic (competitor's) machine. This type of failure (or flaw) is not expected on a machine of this caliber and price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Consumers Reports Wrong AGAIN Decided to not struggle with the Honda that Consumers Reports rated #1 any longer. The Honda was difficult to handle especially on hills..felt like it was going to tip over when traversing hills and was just plain dangerous when going up or down....heavy and awkward. A real handful and not at all user friendly. Looked at Toro, Snapper and Ariens...couldn't ignore the features and quality of the Ariens and purchased after returning to the dealer for a third time. The Ariens has not disappointed in any way...does a great job. The writer who complained about the height adjustment not holding better take the unit in for service...there's something wrong or broken. The writer who complained about the transmission guard dragging on the turf should tip the mower on it's side and observe what the guard is and how it functions. The guard is actually the height adjustment cross shaft and is at it's lowest point when the adjustment is set to it's highest setting. As the height is set lower the cross shaft rotates up into the deck and in no way can drag on the turf. I agree with several writers who complained about difficulty installing the side discharge is indeed difficult and takes some practice. I am surprised that no one commented on how one must drain the oil for an oil change...a messy job that thankfully is usually performed only once a season. If the Razor performs half as well as my Ariens snow blower has for three Michigan winters I'll be very happy. For the life of me I don't understand the low rating the Razor received from Consumers Reports

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased First of all, this is my first Ariens mower. Previously, I have owned Craftsman, Toro and Lawn Boy (both 2 and 4 cycle engined) mowers. Every mower I have owned has had good points and some idiosyncrasies that could be irritating. I purchased this mower based on recommendation of my local small engine shop. I have used this mower for approximately 3 months mowing as a bagger and as a mulcher of both grass and leaves. I think I have a good handle on its pros and cons. I am very pleased with the mower overall. The housing is heavy gauge stamped steel. By heavy, I mean it is at least twice as thick as what is used on the low priced units in the major chain stores. The engine is a Lorcin OHV. It starts on the first or second pull every time whether hot or cold, has good power and seldom bogs down even with a full bag and going uphill. The single lever height adjustment is a great idea. It is the best bagging mower I have owned. The vacuuming action is excellent and the bag has a large capacity and fills completely. The handle adjustment allows the handle to easily be raised to 90 degrees so the bag is easy to remove and replace. It does get a bit "tippy" when the bag is full but not as much as other rear baggers I have owned. The cut is very smooth with very few straggler grass blades. It seems to get better gas "mileage" than my old Lawn Boy. It mows faster than I'm accustomed to - you can mow at a normal walking speed and still get a good cut. Mulching is very good to excellent. The clippings are chopped very fine and clumping is minimal. If the grass is tall or wet, it does have a tendency to leave some visible clippings at the end of a pass or when making a turn. Mulching leaves works fine. The only criticism is that it tends to blow some of the clippings and leaves out the front just ahead of the right front wheel. This is not a problem unless the wind is blowing from the left and the leaves/clippings are blown to the side where the mower doesn't get them. I have used the side discharge very little, but it seems to work fine though the deflector is difficult to attach. I cannot comment on durability, but it appears well made from quality components. Now for the nit-picking. It is a heavy mower. I didn't weigh it, but based on lifting it out of my van (fully assembled) it felt heavier than my old Lawn Boy when I lifted it to haul it to the scrap yard. I'm guessing about 90 - 100 pounds for the Ariens vs 75 - 80 pounds or so for the Lawn Boy. It also feels heavier when using it. That makes it a bit harder to maneuver than my old Lawn Boy. It is not a quiet running engine (maybe a better muffler?). The speed control is a single lever on the right hand side of the handle and takes a bit of getting used to. The first time I used the mower, I squeezed the lever too hard and the mower took off like a scared rabbit. The lever is also hard to reach and control when making a sharp left turn or doing a 180 to the left. I would recommend Ariens engineers design a double lever control so it can be reached easily with either hand (the south-paws will appreciate that as well). It has a guard to protect the transmission (good idea). The problem is that it protrudes below the cutting height. The guard/transmission is under the left rear corner of the mower. If you set the mower much below 3 inches height, the guard will drag in the turf and you lose traction if you're mowing over some rough ground or when mowing along the edge of a sidewalk or driveway. You either have to mow with the guard over the sidewalk or driveway and not on the grass or mow with the right side wheels of the mower on the concrete and the guard well away from the edge of the turf. You need to be careful when installing the bag as it will fall off if you don't get it firmly in the mounting slots. The side discharge chute is difficult to attach. Last, the mulching plug for the bagging chute lets a few clippings slip by it and collect between the plug and the flap that covers the chute. That gets dumped in the driveway or on the lawn when you change from mulch to bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Mower I replaced a TORO mower with the Razor no comparison the Razor starts easy and the self propelled drive allows me to make short work of cutting the grass. Next purchase an Ariens snow blower....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good features such as one lever operation for raising or... I used this Razor for the first time on Wednesday, the 19th of June... The self propelled worked nicely, I loved the speed controls...Best of all was the indicators for the raising and lowering the mower height. Good workmanship....
