Rated 5 out of 5 by from Though obviously not its primary use, this inch-wide aluminum framing beam is the best material available to serve as the launch rail of a 3-5 pound heavy, high-powered sport rocket. An HP rocket's standard, 1/4" hourglass-shaped Delrin lugs glide smoothly along the 1/4" groove upon launch, which can surpass 60 mph as it clears the 97" rail en route to mach 1 (or higher), and a mile or more in altitude. The stiffness of the rail, even in a moderate wind of up to 20 mph, is the secret to ensuring a safe, straight-as-an-arrow take-off, an as-predicted path into the blue, and a safe return by 'chute to the (hopefully) treeless part of the rocket range. Being able to order and pick these up myself at the local Grainger store saves this rocket enthusiast a pretty penny on the prohibitive shipping charges demanded by other online sources for such a hard-to-transport length.
