6-PC. Auger Wood Drilling Bit Set, 5/8 In , 3/4 In , 1 In X 6 In , Carbon Steel is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointing These bits work fine on a thickness of 2" or less. At 4-5" they clog and the pilot threads strip. This leaves you to push with all your might to finish the hole and then pulling with all your might to get the bit back out of the hole. The fluting on the bits should be longer in order to clear the hole on thicker material.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you need to make holes in wood... I have used these bits since they first came out. If you want to make holes in wood, there are no better bits anywhere. They drill fast, they drill clean. Because of the large amount of material that is removed so quickly, I recommend using your drill's clutch. If the bit grabs on something (a staple, a knot, etc), it can rip the drill right out of your hand - assuming you have a decent, powerful drill. I used these a lot during the renovation of my house. I used them for drilling holes through the floor for pipes, holes through studs for wiring, for drilling starter holes for a jigsaw..... Every time I used them, I am still amazed by how well they work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great for soft woods goes thru pine and the like faster that any other bit i've ever used, accept for maybe some old bits i found in my basement from the early 1900's. (which are pretty much the same design by the way) However if your going to be drilling thru hardwood floors I recomend using these in an impact, almost broke my wrist using a dewalt corded drill when the bit, bit into the wood so hard it stopped and the drill kept going. changing to an impact solved this problem and was looking up into my kitchen in about 3 seconds. And that was going thru a 1" layer of pine and a 7/8" layer of oak that are both approximately 120 years old. (age=increased hardness in good conditions, in most hardwoods for those of you who didn't know) post script, this was with 1 1/4 bit im sure the smaller ones don't need the extra help of the impact.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HVAC Owner These bits and quick attach systems are some of the BEST additions the wood drilling construction and remodeling industry has ever had. They are inexpensive, tough, ( Only Greenlee Power Drivers take nails) and they work very, very well well in all kinds of various woods. Irwin did what Milwaukee had 50 years to do and didn't do: Produce a drill bit that rarely clogs, drills like a mad man and doesn't cost a mint !! I love innovation and I highly recommend Irwin bits and tools.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handyman Love them. I don't think I'll ever waste my money on a spade bit again. You have to try them, you'll never go back.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Building 960 sq ft addition These bits work great for going through studs and floor joists when running electrical wire. I use a Dewalt compact impact driver to get between studs. Able to drive through 3 studs at one time with out backing out. It so easy my 4 yr old does it by himself. If you hit a nail, the bit is basically junk - It has a hard time finishing the hole.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dad, DYI & Weekend Warrior, I got to say...these are simply the best and quickest set of drill bits I have ever used to drill through studs! If you don't own them you should! Bravo Irwin!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from President, Hard Hats for Christ These bits bite into the wood and drill a good clean hole in a big hurry. Just don't run into a nail or screw - the tri-flutes will be toast in a big hurry, too!
