Nozzles (also known as tips) focus the stream of plasma flowing out of plasma torches. The size of the opening on the nozzle determines the type of application the nozzle should be used for. Nozzles with smaller openings are recommended for fine, detailed cutting applications. Nozzles with larger openings are better suited for gouging. Nozzles can be exchanged on plasma torches to adapt the torches for different applications. Nozzles are compatible with specific brands and series of plasma torches. They must be replaced when they become worn or the nozzle opening becomes deformed. Typically, nozzles and electrodes are replaced at the same time to maintain the optimal performance of the plasma torch. A complete plasma torch assembly includes a swirl ring, nozzle, retaining cap, shield cap, and electrode.
