Claw, rip, and framing hammers feature a cylindrical hammer end for driving nails, the other end a claw. The claw end of claw hammers has a more pronounced curve to help easily pull nails. Framing hammers have a straighter claw, used more for pulling boards apart than pulling nails. Rip hammers, or rip claw hammers, are lighter weight than framing hammers but usually have a similar straight claw.
