Follow these three steps to help you choose a stepladder that safely and comfortably allows you to get the job done.

 
 
 

STEP 1: MATERIALS

Choose the right material for your task.
Fiberglass
Rugged and durable, ideal when working around electricity. Typically features non-conductive side rails.
Aluminum
Lightweight and easy to carry. Not for use around electricity.
 

STEP 2: LOAD CAPACITY/DUTY RATING

Establish how much weight your ladder will need to support. Load capacity is the combined weight of the user and materials.

STEP 3: SIZE AND HEIGHT

If you need to stand on or above the first step below the top cap of a stepladder it's too short. If your ceiling height prohibits proper stepladder set-up, then it's too long.
