Group lockout boxes secure keys used to apply lockout padlocks to equipment as it's serviced. They reduce the number of locks needed for large operations as each worker only needs to apply one lock in one location rather than at every lockout point. A single lock is applied to each lockout at the control point and the key for that lock is placed in the lockout box. Each worker then applies a personal lockout padlock to the box, taking their own key with them. Workers add and remove their locks as they work on the equipment. The last person to finish work and remove their lock gains access to the keys to remove the padlocks installed on the equipment. These devices are an integral part of a facility lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedure designed to meet the OSHA standard for the Control of Hazardous Energy (Lockout/Tagout).
Portable Group Lockout Boxes
Portable group lockout boxes can be carried to the lockout location to eliminate the need for workers to locate the box outside the working area. This can save worker time, especially in large facilities where lockout equipment can be stored separately from the workspace.
