Clear acrylic sheets and bars are scratch-resistant and offer the clarity and brilliance of glass, but are lighter and more durable. Also known as polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), these sheets and bars are made with a thermoplastic material that can be fabricated and thermoformed into different shapes. They have excellent strength, stiffness, and optical clarity, and bond well with adhesives and solvents. Their weathering properties make them suitable for outdoor use and different coatings can be applied to enhance their functionality. They are slow-burning and self-extinguishing and do not produce harmful smoke or gases in the presence of flames. These sheets and bars are commonly used to create signs, displays, skylights, and conveyor shields.
