V-belts, sometimes called vee-belts, are a type of drive belt that have tapered sides that fit in pulleys with side guides. They transfer force from motors to pulleys to power a variety of parts including paddles, rollers, water pumps, compressors, and fans. The V shape allows the belt to fit securely in the pulley to prevent side drift and help prevent the belt from turning over. Banded belts have multiple grooves parallel to the length of the belt for added stability. They can be used to replace multiple single V-belts. Cogged belts have grooves that run perpendicular to the length of the belt. The cogs allow the belt to flex for use with smaller diameter wheels or can be used with sprocket pulleys to limit slip. Link belts can be customized to any length and can be installed without disassembly of the drive system.
