Direct thermal labels let users create custom labels with barcodes and other useful information. These blank paper labels do not require a ribbon, ink, or toner for printing, which avoids the expense and storage space needed to purchase and store these items. The labels' adhesive backing sticks to surfaces such as packages, shipping containers, and warehouse or retail racks. A compatible thermal barcode label printer is used to print addresses, barcodes, company logos, and other useful information on the labels for shipping, tracking, inventory, product identification, and pricing applications. Images on direct thermal labels may fade over time and the label material may darken if it is overexposed to heat, light, or similar catalysts. This can make any text or barcodes on the labels unreadable, so these labels are not recommended for lifetime identification applications.
