Lubrication keeps motors, tools, and mechanical equipment running smoothly by reducing friction, inhibiting heat, and preventing corrosion. Grease is a tacky, thick lubricant that does not flow through systems but stays in place without leaking or squeezing out due to gravity, centrifugal force, or pressure. Oils are liquid lubricants that flow through closed systems which allows them to be used at higher speeds than grease. Lubricants and penetrating lubricants add a slippery film or coating on machinery, tools, or parts to reduce wear and friction between surfaces. Anti-seize compounds are applied to fasteners and parts before assembly to keep them from sticking together or corroding so they can be dismantled. Mold release agents apply to molds to create a barrier that prevents materials from sticking.
