Hazardous Location Specification

Class I, Div 1, Group B, C, D are for hazardous locations where flammable gases or vapors may be present during normal operations. Class I hazards are commonly found in petroleum refineries, fuel dispensaries, sewage treatment plants, and processes using chemicals, paints, coatings, or sealants. This rating indicates the electrical device is suitable for use with the following hazardous materials: Group B (hydrogen, butadiene, ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, and acrolein), Group C (ethylene, cyclopropane, and ethyl ether), and Group D (acetone, ammonia, benzene, butane, ethanol, gasoline, hexane, methane, methanol, naphtha, natural gas, propane, and toluene).
Class I, Div 1 and 2, Group C, D are for hazardous locations where flammable gases or vapors may be present during normal operations, normally confined, or not present in ignitable concentrations. Class II hazards are commonly found in pharmaceutical factories, coal-handling plants, grain elevators, and plants processing flour, feed, or powder. This rating indicates the electrical device is suitable for use with the following hazardous materials: Group E combustible dust (aluminum, commercial alloys, and magnesium), Group F combustible dust (carbon black, charcoal, coal, and coke dust), and Group G combustible dust (chemicals, flour, grain, plastic, and wood).
