Surface-conditioning rolls clean and smooth surfaces to prepare them for finishing. Rolls include lengths of nonwoven abrasive material that is cut from the roll at the desired length. Nonwoven abrasives are flexible to wrap around and conform to irregular surfaces. Surface-conditioning abrasives are generally used with a liquid to clean and polish a variety of materials including metal, wood, tile, and ceramic.

General purpose surface-conditioning rolls optimized for use on all surfaces have an aluminum oxide abrasive applied to a nonwoven surface. Surface-conditioning abrasives made of nonwoven nylon conform to irregular surfaces and remove surface imperfections, mill scale, and surface rust to create a smooth surface ready for finishing. Aluminum oxide is a strong, sharp, and durable abrasive that penetrates the work surface and withstands heat and high speeds. Compatible surfaces and substrates include paint, plastic, composites, gelcoat, fiberglass, and carbon steel.
