Yes this unit is thermally protected, it will shut off upon over heat and re-start once it is cooled down. This unit will also turn off and on with the float switch, which is normal and sometimes mistaken as a shut down from over heat. This is a very good system and if you are having issues with this you can contact Grainger Technical Support at 1-800-356-0783
