Rated 3 out of 5 by Original Wagner Paint Mate Roller Arm I own an original paint mate. When we detached the roller arm assembly from the body, we couldn't get it back on. This is the threaded arm assembly, not the quick release. There is a round hard plastic cylinder and a rubber collar piece that were inside. I am assuming it detached from the roller arm? But no matter how we try and reconstruct it, we cannot get the pieces back to together. We only used this product one time and loved it, but I can't get it back together to use it again. Even the directions are vague and do not tell you how to get it back together. And doesn't show the rubber collar or plastic cylinder. July 17, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic and easy to use Awesome product, saves heaps of time! Have had no problems at all with it, it keeps everything clean and splatter free and gives a really good finish, highly recommended to buy. May 25, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome Product. I own the original paint mate. I purchased 2 of them about 6 years ago to completely paint a newly renovated 2500 sqft house. I put about 5-6 coats on the whole house without issue. I recently pulled them from storage to do another 3000 sqft house and they work fine still. I do not understand all of the naysayers, these things are awesome. Easy to clean as well. I always cover the seals with vasaline, maybe that helps. Honestly, these things would be worth throwing out after a full day of painting they are so helpful. IMO I hope the person who came up with this thing is set for life, chilling on some remote beach with a lifetime supply of beer. April 23, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Broke after a couple of gallons :( Used it to paint one small room and it worked good, cleaned it and put away for about a year when we needed to paint another room all was going well until head broke off just behind the fill valve on main part were it narrows down.Bad design should have had more material in this spot as it is the weekest point. No way to fix it as no parts avialable for this and it is glued onto tube.Looks like the trash can have it what a waste.:( Sad in Colorad0 February 24, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Do not Buy If you want paint all over your floor. This is the product for you. The rubber check valve breaks after painting about 25 square feet. Then wagner will ship ONE to you as a defect. February 15, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Real time and mess saver I replaced an earlier version of this tool that had finally given out. I noticed quite a few details that made the tool easier to use and more reliable. The main benefits are:- Much faster than using a roller and tray. You fill the tube from the paint can and go back to the tray and can much less often.- Far neater. No drips around the tray. No paint running down the sides of the paint can. The filler tube stays in the can waiting for your next reload.- Less wasted paint at the end of the day, though not zero since you lose some during cleanup. It takes a bit of practice to learn how often to squeeze the trigger. You don't want to be working too hard to get coverage but pump too often and you get drips. If you are painting overhead for extended periods, it can get heavy since the objective of the design is to load up a lot of paint. Consider loading it only half way.Cleanup is complicated and a bit messy.- Be sure to read and heed the directions. I had to keep them out to make sure I followed all the steps.- You force any paint remaining in the tube right back into the paint can, but some of the paint in the roller assembly ends up wasted. Rated 4 out of 5 by Great product, but careful with the refill This product works wonderfully as long as the duckbill valve doesn't tear on you. If this happens and you don't catch it in time you can have a giant mess. July 10, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great productivity tool! Used this product a few times in the last 6 years to re-paint 4 rooms of the house. First of all, don't expect to appreciate it in the first 5 minutes. As with any tool, it takes some time and practice to get used to it and fully benefit from it. But once you get the tricks (re-filling, triggering at fixed intervals the handle, rolling), then it becomes evident that you did a good purchase. My record is re-painting the 4 walls of a 12x10 room in about 15 minutes (one coat)! You basically save the time of re-wetting your roll in the pan hundreds of time. You roll, roll, just roll. Re-filling is fast and have about enough in the container (bar) for a 8-10 feet wall if you have good quality paint with high coverage (I was using Sico Cachemire). Then comes the washing... That's the only negative point I found of this tool. It's a bit long to do. To thoroughly rinse and wash it, you must basically dismantle quite a few parts. Better do this task in a bath with 2-3" of water (with a bit of soap). Just too long to do if you switch back-and-forth between primer and colors, like if you do two rooms at the same time or 2 colors in a same room. It's getting already more convenient if you use the newer paint+primer 2-in-1 products. But I resolved the problem another way: I appreciate so much not constantly going to the pan and saving time, that I purchased a second PaintMate to avoid having to clean until the job is completely finished (two coats without cleaning). For the ones who complain about leaking valve, never happened to me, but I do what I always did for any silicone/rubber gasket: I lubricate them with silicone grease to maintain their flexibility and ensure they never dry/rigidify. Special rolls are a bit more expensive, but they are good quality and last several rooms if well cleaned and stored. July 8, 2012
