There is an adjustable arm on the back of the hotplate with a thermometer probe attached. Is this external thermometer used to measure the surface heat of the hot plate or to place inside say a beaker to measure the actual temperature of a liquid? I need a digital hot plate that I can set at a constant temp and let the hot plate automatically maintain that temp. I assume the temperature of the hot plate is regulated by an internal thermometer. Is this correct?

Answer:
Grainger has contacted the product supplier and has been advised by them of the following. This probe is to measure the temperature of your sample not the plate. Thank you for using Grainger Ask and Answer.
