Does this soft start require control voltage for switching, or does it function as an add-on control downstream from our existing start relay?

Answer:
According to the manufacturer, "The ATS01N2**LU/QN/RT models require a run command on the control circuit. A START/STOP contact can be wired to LI+ and LI2. This will allow soft start and soft stop. If the softstarter is to run the motor when power is applied to the ATS01, then install a jumper between LI+ and LI2. This will give a soft start and a freewheel stop."
