Details

Reliable, self-regulating, and designed for metal and plastic pipe freeze protection. You can also use it for gutter and roof deicing applications on porches and overhangs. Suitable for use in dry or wet locations. Cable comes preassembled with a 30-inch power cord and plug. Heating cable is not suitable for use in lengths longer than 100 ft. To help minimize the danger of fire if the heating cable is damaged or improperly installed, use a Ground-Fault-Protection Device (GFPD).

Rated 5 out of 5 by This product works well I have two use heat Cable at are Company for the last four years I still have many water lines break . We are a large company so We use alot of heat cable and every year we have to replace it .Last year we bought this brand at first we thought it was kind of high priced but after installing and using it for A winter I think its a great price .We had no trouble out of this heat cable no water line breaks for the first time and they are all working perfect sill so we dont have to reinstall . This is a great product I will buy this product again IF they ever go bad March 23, 2012

Answer: 
This cable must be wrapped around the pipe and then insulated. So you will need a much longer length. Please call 1-800-GRAINGER and ask to speak to a HVAC tech, they will assist you.

Yes that heat cable can be used for ice melt on a gutter downspout in a wet location.
