i have shower shelves made by Bobrick that have sharp edges when bumped against and i need a coating to cover a 1/4 inch to 3/8ths from edge the thickness is just less than a 16th of an inch

Answer: 
There are several options that you have to "break" that sharp corner. One could be an epoxy or even a caulk for example. There are several questions that would need to be answered to determine what would be the best course of action.
