Do we have to take the light fixture apart to use the system?
If I put this in a standard fixture, how does the unit know if the power went out, or if we simply turned off the lights at the end of the workday?

Answer: 
According to the manufacturer, this emergency battery comes with an indicator light and a push to test button that will be used for testing purposes. A constant power source is required for use in conjunction with this battery.
