Rated 1 out of 5 by 1reviewer.
Rated 1 out of 5 by This unit is probably fine for home use, it looks pretty good, and is super easy to use. Thus the one star. Everything else about it is absolutely terrible. The 'Audit' function, while it does have one, is about as far removed from intuitive as you can get. The "Other" hotel safe brand (which is exactly the same case just a different keypad) comes with a backup batt pack in case the batteries go out. This MESA does not, although it does have a 'phone jack' plug which presumably can be used to power the unit in the event of dead batteries. But no jack / battery pack is supplied like in the "Other". The biggest problem with this and the "Other" one, is the 'override key'. The physical key slot in the front of the door is easy to access. The supplied key is pretty unique to each unit, but I was able to 'open' it with just a flat blade screwdriver. I mean seriously? An allen wrench and a flat blade can open the door in about 15 seconds or less. Now, you could still use it and just physically disable the override key lever by removing one screw inside the door. But if the batteries go out, you won't be able to open it unless you have the phone jack thing figured out. I guess it's better than nothing in a hotel room, and I've used them lots of times in travels. But now, having opened one with a screwdriver, I would be very hesitant to use them in the future for anything of value. August 14, 2014
