I see that the AC black wire from the power source attaches to the switch (fixture black wire). If I have a wall switch is there any reason I can't connect the AC black wire directly to ballast black wire rather than the internal switch? Thus turning on the light by using the wall switch. Thanks for your help.

Answer: 
If you wish to bypass the switch on the fixture, the ballast can be connected directly to your wall switch.
