During a building inspection, your fire marshall may look for the LED indicator that you have power to the fixture. This inspector may also wish to test the fixture by pushing the test button. Neither of these possibilities will be easily achievable if the light and button are on top.
You will need to consult your local inspector for final approval to this matter.
