Rated 5 out of 5 by Lordsheeshamaru I have had around two months ! Works great! Buy one June 21, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by keyless entry We have had this product installed for several months and have been very pleased with the quality of this deadbolt. The finish, even in our very harsh Florida Keys environment, still looks like it came out of the box. June 20, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Concept I really like this lock and the concept behind it. I like it so well, that I am on my second one even though the first one failed. June 1, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by some problems I bought an electronic lock which lasted 4 years before the keypad ceased making contact with the brain. The key pad consisted of rounded blister buttons which hardened. I contacted Kwikset and they sent a replacement. All I really needed was a new keypad; The new one was of much better quality due to being made of raised, sealed, rubber buttons. I changed just the key pad and was delighted that the lock worked well again. I hesitate to use the SMART KEY functiion as there has been problems with people locked out due to "rekey" not working properly.A year previously I bought the same type for my cottage which "ate" batteries. 4 batteries would last 2 weeks. Kwikset quickly replaced it!I really like these locks as I can change the combination for cottage guests and also for home: Grandaughter, cleaning lady, neigbor watching house (vacation).Great service from Kwikset! Rated 5 out of 5 by Easy to install and use, I was able to install this item myself. I love the ease of use. Never have to worry about being locked out. Loved it so much I bought one as a gift for a family member and they also love it! May 28, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by VERY HANDY DEVICE, IT HAS USEFFULL FEATURES THAT SERVE A PURPOSE. IT IS ON MY ENTRANCE DOOR, AND HAS PERFORMED AS ADVERTISED. GOOD JOB KWIKSET. WHAT A WONDERFULL TIME WE LIVE IN. May 25, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Convenience The SmartCode 909 makes it easy to enter the front door when it is dark and when you have an armful. My wife can go for walks without taking her purse. Batteries seem to be lasting a long time and are easy to change. May 24, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very nice product This works as advertised. It is super easy to install, took me just a few minutes, the first weekend after I installed we were away from home and had to let our neighbor in, too easy, I texted her the code and she was in. We like to take walks, now no need to carry keys. I am very satisfied and would recommend this to anyone. May 23, 2015

batteries

Do the batteries work the locking mechanism or only to light the keys? Can I get in without a key if the battery is dead?

Answer:
The batteries on this unit power both the keypad light and the mechanism that pushes the deadbolt in and out. In the event that the batteries fail, you would need to use the standard key to release the deadbolt and open the door. You would not be able to get in without a key if the batteries are dead. However, this unit has a blinking LED that would alert you to the fact that the batteries are in need of replacement before they are unable to operate.
