Answer: 
According to Justrite Manufacturing, the flame arrestor screen "sits" down into the neck of the container fill opening. This flame arrestor can be removed by using a pliers or other tool to grasp the edge of the screen to pull out from the opening. There are no tension collars or locking clips that hold the arrestor in place. So it can be easily removed. Flame arrestors should not be removed unless they are being replaced. Removing a flame arrestor altogether can be a safety hazard and will void safety compliances.
