The 1AYP9 is the replacement for the old Honeywell T87 round thermostats. There is no C (common) terminal on the 1AYP9. This means it does not steal power from the furnace/heater. All thermostats mechanical or digital have to have 24 volts from the furnace to be able to switch the furnace on/off.
