Rated 4 out of 5 by One Thing Missing Electric start would make this a nice tool. Hard starting when cold but still a nice unit. A starter that you could convert this model to would be nice also. September 11, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Manual start is a hard pull I like the generator but there are a few things to be aware of.There is no electric start and the manual pull cord takes a bit of effort to get it started. I am almost 50 but physically fit and it is a hard pull. I don't think most women are going to be successful in getting it started. The engine is constant and does not rev down like the gasoline versions and it is a little noisy. The benefit to this is the generator does not bog down when it is starting a load.I love not having to worry about a carburetor getting fouled up by gasoline. This greatly out ways any cons for this product. And propane can sit in the tank on the shelf for a very long time, unlike our current gasoline, which only lasts a couple months unless you add stabilizers. The solid wheels on this unit are great. I need to get some for my other equipment. August 24, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by nice generator I bought the lp 5500 to replace another brand that was impossible to get parts for. I went with Generac knowing that I could get parts and service if need be. I won't use anything but propane for the following reaasons. No worry of it gumming up when not being used, no hassle of gas cans, and it can be ran off anything from a 20 lb. BBQ cylinder to a 1000 gallon domestic tank. An electric start would be nice but so far it has always started by the 3rd pull. In the winter I plan on putting 5-30 synthetic oil in it. It is a great generator and looks good too! June 4, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by So far, so good I just set this up as a standby for parts of the house. It tested well and is less noisy that a comparable gasoline generator. It is also smaller and eliminates the worry of gasoline contamination. I would really like to have a model in the 8KW range with an electric starter; but so far, so good. May 28, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love the wheels. Having had a Generac 3500 watt gasoline powered unit since 1983 which works as well now as it did when new, we thought a propane fuel unit is a good idea.Did the simple assembly, attached a twenty pound tank and started the LP5500. Voila, it is a charmer.Thank you Generac of the great state of Wisconsin. May 23, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great looking easy moving generator I bought this product because or two reasons, first it is a Generac brand of which I have read many reviews and was impressed by the company and its products and second the place where I bought it.After receiving the LP5500 (it came by freight) I was impressed by how quickly and easily it assembled .The instructions on operation and installation are very simple and understandable.I followed the instructions and it started as described, I am very pleased with the purchase and am expecting many years of service. Thanks Generac, May 22, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent product, love the LP We had a Generator panel installed when we built our house in the country so 4 steps to run our house on the lp5500. 1) roll Gen outside 2) plug it in 3) start it up 4) turn on the circuits you need on the gen panel. The three times we have used it started on the 3rd pull. My wife has started it without help just using the instructions on the top, which makes me feel better traveling etc...Love the LP- no more worries about draining the carb etc.. and having fuel go bad, or messing with/rebuilding a carb in the dark when you really need the generator. It meets our needs as occasional users wonderfully. Rated 5 out of 5 by A solid unit I just bought the LP5500. Set up was easy and the unit started up on the second pull. My connection to my home electrical system is complete, and I just need a loss of power to take advantage of this unit. With the winter we had in the Boston area in 2015, it is a miracle that we did not lose power once, but now I am ready when the power goes out. March 29, 2015

1 Person needs an answerI have this question too

Generac’s LP Series generators does feature voltage regulation, however, they do not have low total harmonic distortion. To visually determine whether the unit is brushed or brushless, a brushless unit will have a capacitor inside the end of the alternator assembly. This capacitor will look similar to a soup can. If this capacitor is not there, that means the unit is brushed. If you are unsure by visually inspecting the unit, we would recommend contacting a local certified service technician. Our units featuring Generac’s TruePower Technology (which refers to the product’s total harmonic distortion), regulate the output voltage to ±5%. Newer appliances or sensitive electronics with electronic control boards, such as new washers and dryers, refrigerators, furnaces, microwaves, toaster ovens, and computers, can require total harmonic distortion to be below 5%; the total harmonic distortion for the LP Series portable units will be above 5%. If you are interested in units that do in fact bestow this feature, we would recommend considering our XP or iX series units. If you are unsure of whether or not your particular appliances need the lower harmonic distortion, we recommend contacting the manufacturer to determine any specifications or restrictions for use with a portable generator.
