Rated 5 out of 5 by Love the LP option over Gas Chose this mainly because I no longer wanted to deal with the problem of gas gumming up my carbs. Liked the ability to store the propane for, well... basically forever where as gas has a shelf life. Also found it far safer to store the propane which is readily available in my area. Glad I made this choice. November 11, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by What more do you need! This is not my first Generac generator. I have owned a whole house standby unit at a previous home and for four years it never missed a beat. It started the first time and ran sometimes for days. We use to lose the power quite often there, and more than once I was so glad we bought it. This is why it was a no brainer to purchase the LP5500. I have a much smaller home and only a few circuits that I really need in the event of power loss. I wanted an LP unit due to the gas storage issues and what it does to the engines if not kept fresh. You can store propane almost forever. I bought a couple tanks to have on hand. This machine fits the bill perfectly. The first time I pulled the rope after following the start up directions it jumped to life and ran flawlessly. I installed a Generac 6-10 breaker transfer switch along with the outside outlet. This is exactly what I needed. It powers my well pump the kitchen, a bedroom, and one bathroom, as well as two room heaters. Not all at once of course, but as needed, never missing a beat. The bonus is I can use this anywhere at any time for almost anything. It moves around quite easy and is very simple to use as well as work on. Buy this generator. You won't regret it at all. Generac is one name you can truely rely on. November 4, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by This product is a great Portable/standby generator When my old generator failed once again when I needed it. I decided to get rid of it and go for something more dependable. So I did a little research by asking people I knew if they owned a generator and if so what kind they owned and what was their opinion of it. A couple of these owned a Generac. The Generac owners were very happy with their generators and have not had any problems what so ever. The others who owns other brands. have experienced the similar problems that I had. After when it sits for and extended period of four mounts or more, they have trouble starting them or what ticked me off the most was when I go to use it during a power failure, and I would open the gas valve to the tank, gas would flow right out the bottom of the carburetor because the seals and diaphragm would have gone bad even though I have always added a stabilizer and ethanol treatment to all the gasoline that is used in my small engine equipment. Once I found out what I now believe to be the best generator. I went online at generac .com to see what was available, I discovered the LP powered model and I knew just what I would buy. After checking locally I found that the local hardware store had this model on sale. Another bonus. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it started the first time it was started and how quite it was compared to my old generator. I am very happy with purchase and would Highly recommend this product. The only negative I found is that is a little difficult to push over a gravel drive. but is not difficult to pull over gravel as it has an excellent handle system to maneuver it. September 14, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Doubted my purchase at first, but it was definitely the right choice Bought this over a year ago when we first moved into our house in Texas and I was worried about hurricanes and wanted a backup generator. I struggled with propane vs. gas for a bit and finally went with propane because a) I didn't want to have to fiddle with a dirty carb in the middle of a storm and b) I've never had any propane engines and the novelty appealed to meHowever, we didn't get *any* hurricanes last year and only lost power once in a storm in the beginning of the season. It went back into the barn and (literally) collected dust for the next year while I dealt with the craziness of a new baby and being heavily involved with animal rescue. Finally decided I should get around to installing a power transfer switch for the house so the generator can power the well-pump when I realized I hadn't started it up in a year. Hooked it up, followed the instructions on the dial, and started it up on the second pull. Amazing. I have to take apart and clean carburetors if something sits for 6 months normally. To start up and run perfectly after a year made me very reassured of having gone with propane.Fuel choice aside, the features are great. Easy to hook up to a power transfer switch, easy to start, easy to transport, good layout. Haven't done any maintenance yet, but it looks easy enough as well. Very happy with the purchase. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Design I like this generator very much. The portable propane fuel makes this generator very versatile. The generator starts up consistently when the directions for starting are followed. My only wish would be for a battery starting option for those that don't have the strength to pull start. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Portable LP Generator LP5500, just what I have been looking for. Propane Generator frees me from the expense of having to store large quantity of gasoline. I have a larger propane tank that can be connected when needed if the power is off longer than what a couple portable tanks would allow using the generator in emergencies or extended power outages.A removable clamp on front wheel and bracket using pit pins would allow easier movement of the generator. The rear wheels were easy to attach and generator started on the second pull. Power control wheel is a great feature May 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by No need to worry about old gasoline! I decided to purchase this LP unit, to avoid the hassle of gasoline going bad and carburetors gumming up. If the gas stations are out of power, you're out of luck. Finding propane is easy.Product is built very well. Enjoy the feature of the surge protector resets. Wheels wont go flat. Starting instructions are simple. Will be curious to see how the unit starts in cold weather. April 27, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by product is well built Have used it three times, it worked great. Way less noise then gas burners. Am in process of hooking it up permanently. Good product , well built. April 3, 2014

Answer:
Generac’s LP Series generators does feature voltage regulation, however, they do not have low total harmonic distortion. To visually determine whether the unit is brushed or brushless, a brushless unit will have a capacitor inside the end of the alternator assembly. This capacitor will look similar to a soup can. If this capacitor is not there, that means the unit is brushed. If you are unsure by visually inspecting the unit, we would recommend contacting a local certified service technician. Our units featuring Generac’s TruePower Technology (which refers to the product’s total harmonic distortion), regulate the output voltage to ±5%. Newer appliances or sensitive electronics with electronic control boards, such as new washers and dryers, refrigerators, furnaces, microwaves, toaster ovens, and computers, can require total harmonic distortion to be below 5%; the total harmonic distortion for the LP Series portable units will be above 5%. If you are interested in units that do in fact bestow this feature, we would recommend considering our XP or iX series units. If you are unsure of whether or not your particular appliances need the lower harmonic distortion, we recommend contacting the manufacturer to determine any specifications or restrictions for use with a portable generator.
