Rated 5 out of 5 by Doubted my purchase at first, but it was definitely the right choice Bought this over a year ago when we first moved into our house in Texas and I was worried about hurricanes and wanted a backup generator. I struggled with propane vs. gas for a bit and finally went with propane because a) I didn't want to have to fiddle with a dirty carb in the middle of a storm and b) I've never had any propane engines and the novelty appealed to meHowever, we didn't get *any* hurricanes last year and only lost power once in a storm in the beginning of the season. It went back into the barn and (literally) collected dust for the next year while I dealt with the craziness of a new baby and being heavily involved with animal rescue. Finally decided I should get around to installing a power transfer switch for the house so the generator can power the well-pump when I realized I hadn't started it up in a year. Hooked it up, followed the instructions on the dial, and started it up on the second pull. Amazing. I have to take apart and clean carburetors if something sits for 6 months normally. To start up and run perfectly after a year made me very reassured of having gone with propane.Fuel choice aside, the features are great. Easy to hook up to a power transfer switch, easy to start, easy to transport, good layout. Haven't done any maintenance yet, but it looks easy enough as well. Very happy with the purchase. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Design I like this generator very much. The portable propane fuel makes this generator very versatile. The generator starts up consistently when the directions for starting are followed. My only wish would be for a battery starting option for those that don't have the strength to pull start. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Portable LP Generator LP5500, just what I have been looking for. Propane Generator frees me from the expense of having to store large quantity of gasoline. I have a larger propane tank that can be connected when needed if the power is off longer than what a couple portable tanks would allow using the generator in emergencies or extended power outages.A removable clamp on front wheel and bracket using pit pins would allow easier movement of the generator. The rear wheels were easy to attach and generator started on the second pull. Power control wheel is a great feature May 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by No need to worry about old gasoline! I decided to purchase this LP unit, to avoid the hassle of gasoline going bad and carburetors gumming up. If the gas stations are out of power, you're out of luck. Finding propane is easy.Product is built very well. Enjoy the feature of the surge protector resets. Wheels wont go flat. Starting instructions are simple. Will be curious to see how the unit starts in cold weather. April 27, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by product is well built Have used it three times, it worked great. Way less noise then gas burners. Am in process of hooking it up permanently. Good product , well built. April 3, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by great product the product works great and I highly recommend having one .lp is the way to go , easy storage and gas doesn't go bad. March 31, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Exactly what we needed. We have a small business that requires construction site power. With this unit, the safety of propane tanks not gasoline as well as not being concerned with carburetor issues since the equipment is not used all the time is a great plus. Even with gas stabilizer, over time we would have problems. The propane option for us is more reliable and dependable. March 29, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great easy to start. Cranked 2nd pull. I would recomend this to every one. My wife can start this one. One hand pull. February 23, 2014

1 Person needs an answerI have this question too

Generac’s LP Series generators does feature voltage regulation, however, they do not have low total harmonic distortion. To visually determine whether the unit is brushed or brushless, a brushless unit will have a capacitor inside the end of the alternator assembly. This capacitor will look similar to a soup can. If this capacitor is not there, that means the unit is brushed. If you are unsure by visually inspecting the unit, we would recommend contacting a local certified service technician. Our units featuring Generac’s TruePower Technology (which refers to the product’s total harmonic distortion), regulate the output voltage to ±5%. Newer appliances or sensitive electronics with electronic control boards, such as new washers and dryers, refrigerators, furnaces, microwaves, toaster ovens, and computers, can require total harmonic distortion to be below 5%; the total harmonic distortion for the LP Series portable units will be above 5%. If you are interested in units that do in fact bestow this feature, we would recommend considering our XP or iX series units. If you are unsure of whether or not your particular appliances need the lower harmonic distortion, we recommend contacting the manufacturer to determine any specifications or restrictions for use with a portable generator.
