Answer:
Grainger has contacted the product supplier and have been advised by them of the following:

According to Kidde, the only thing that will be different with this model is the wiring harness and the bracket, but both come with the detector itself. So yes, this is a direct replacement according to them.

Answer:
According to the Firex Smnoke Alarm User's Guide, only the the 9-Volt batteries listed below are to be used when replacing the battery:
Carbon-zinc type - EVERREADY 1222; or GOLD PEAK 1604P or1604S;
Alkaline type - ENERGIZER 522; DURACELL MN1604 or MX1604; GOLD PEAK 1604A; or PANASONIC 6AM6, 6AM-6, 6AM-6PI, 6AM6X or 6LR61 (GA); or
Lithium type - ULTRALIFE U9VL-J.

Use of different batteries may have a detrimental effect on the smoke alarm and the alarm may still beep.

Simply replacing the battery is not working.
1)Should I unplug the alarm or turn off the power circuit in order to reset the system?
2)Should I press and hold the reset/ hush button for a specified length of time?
This is a pre owned home and we do not have the original owner's manual. Thank you, Dan Thomas
