Compliance and Restrictions

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 19reviewers.
Rated 2 out of 5 by Fantastic audio but deeply flawed design I’ve given this product two stars and this review will be lengthy.First, I’m a dedicated Etymotic customer. I’ve had two etycom headsets over the years and the ER6 earphones and the HF5 earphones. So I’ve had Etymotic products for ten years and learned how to change filters and figure out what eartips work best for me.Now before I tried the EtyBlu I read all the reviews: both here and elsewhere. I want to address the most common complaints up front. Those who complain about the sound or the comfort probably have NOT experimented enough with ear canal products. When you get any Etymotic product, it is a “learning curve” to learn: (1) how to insert sufficiently deep the product so as to cancel outside noise and to get a full spectrum sound of bass to treble. Pushing these things in lightly is going to result in no bass and not much volume and (2) I have experimented with all the ear tips, and Etymotic always sends you several to try and you need to try them all. For me, the ER-38-14A Small Beige foam eartips are the most comfortable. The tripled flanged rubber tips are the easiest to insert but tend to soon “itch” my ears. The Small Beige Foam eartips require a special art: pinch them with your fingers, then insert and they will gradually puff back up and fill your ear drum. These, to me, are the most comfortable and also the best at blocking outside sound. So the first complaint I read in all these reviews is what I basically conclude are folks who have not learned to use ear canal products or sufficient experimented with the different ear tips.Third, a complaint often is that the earloop that hangs over your ear is not well designed and isn’t comfortable. Well, truth is, if you have learned how to use ear canal products as set forth in the first paragraph above, you don’t NEED this earloop. I guess if I used this product all day answering calls, I might use it, but your headset will stay in place comfortably without it if you have found the best ear tip for you. So again, reading these complaints makes me think the consumers haven’t sufficiently understood this product. As far as Warranty and Service, I’ve had no problem with Etymotic. Years ago, I sent an Etycom headset back and they replaced it and I’ve also sent this Etyblu back and they fixed or replaced it.Now having covered some complaints that I think have little merit, I’ll deal with the real complaints. First of all, the good news: the audio of this product is excellent. It’s why I’ve used two etycom headsets and a couple of their ear canal speakers. I’ve used the Etycom system for a couple of years now for conference calls: the ones where 20 people are on the line and you can barely hear. You really need to have this product in your ear to hear what others are trying to say. At age 63 my hearing isn’t what it used to be and that’s one reason I use the Etycom headsets. In particular I bought the Etyblu because I’ve got a convertible and I want others to be able to hear me as I drive down the highway with the top down and I want to be able to hear those who call me. I can say that this product does that every well, particularly with the large foam over the mic. As far as AUDIO goes, the product is great, I’d give it five stars. But there are two problems with this headset. The design is a bit flawed. The MPB (Multi Purpose Button) is hard to work. You don’t know for sure if you’re pushing it down hard enough, and long enough, at times, and it’s particularly difficult to work when it’s in your ear to answer phone calls. I’m with the other reviewer who suggested that the mini usb port needs to be on the side to charge the unit and the MFB button needs to be on the end, and perhaps with a click so you know when it’’s pushed in correctly. This way you could push it in to answer a phone call without pushing the unit to hard into your ear canal. I agree that in my opinion this is a serious design flaw that should be corrected. And the second problem is possibly a software flaw, but it could be a software flaw on my iphone. I can easily connect this unit to my iPhone 6plus via bluetooth. However most of the phone calls, when I answer, the unit, although still CONNECTED to my phone via bluetooth, doesn’t answer. What happens most of the time, is that my screen on my iPhone comes up. I see the six circles with SPEAKER on the upper right hand corner. I answer the phone and hear no sound through this blue tooth set. I touch the SPEAKER Circle and find three choices: Etyblu, iphone, and Speaker, and most of the time the check is beside the iPhone. To connect the Bluetooth headset I have to touch the speaker button choice on the screen and RECHECK the top Etyblu connection. Then it works. This happens ALL or 90 percent of the time. For some reason, a few minutes after you have either connected this unit with the phone via bluetooth, or answered or made a phone call, the iphone reverts to the IPHONE as it’s default speaker connection. It doesn’t stay with the bluetooth headset as your default connection, even though you gone to settings and it’s still connected via bluetooth. So, I get a phone call. I don’t bother messing with the headset, it won’t work. I pick up the phone, i answer the phone, I then have to touch speaker on the upper right hand corner and re select Etyblu. Everytime. I've got the process down to two seconds.Yes, this is an annoyance and flaw and why I only give the unit two stars. The audio is five stars. And I’ve learned to adapt to the unit. May 18, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Great Sound in/out- poor ergonics & comfort There's no question about the outgoing and incoming sound quality of the Etyblu2. Sound quality is excellent and what you would expect from Etymotic. That said, there are several design features that I have problems with.1. The ear clip to mount the Etyblu2 on your ear is not very good and sort of cheap. It's merely a thin, curved piece of metal with a rubber sleeve on the portion that goes behind your ear. The exposed tip of the metal should be filed down because it's sharp and can scratch your neck if you're not careful. It also does not give you a snug fit and needs constant adjusting. Plus, it's not a bendable piece of metal, so you can't tweak it a little to customize it for your ear size. Honestly, I think they could do far better here if they tried.2. The Silver on-off/main control button is poorly placed on the outside face of the unit. You must press it in to enable functions and that makes you push the unit into your ear. It requires a firm push and therefore, it can be irritating and sometimes painful jamming the earpiece into your ear canal. My suggestion to engineering is to make the volume buttons a skosh smaller and move the main function button just below them on the same outside edge. This will eliminate pressing the unit uncomfortably into your ear to use the function button. As with the volume buttons, your thumb would steady the unit on one side and your forefinger can press as hard as needed to activate the functions without irritating your ear. This also puts all controls on the same side of the unit for easier fingering.3. There is no signal from the earpiece when you turn the unit on or off and that would be a simple and useful addition.4. It would be nice if some kind of case was included to store the unit when you're not using it. I've been putting mine in an unused hardshell sunglasses case, which works fine.I'm very satisfied with the sound quality but not pleased with the ergonomics. February 8, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Simply the best I own three of these, kept in different places and/or rotated on the charger. For listening, the noise isolation makes it usable in noisy environments. When talking, the ability to position the mic very close to your mouth means you can speak in a low voice and be heard clearly instead of having to yell. January 31, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Works great for my needs! The ETY Blu2 works great and has met my expectations! I have 2 desk phones and 1 company cell phone plus my personal I-phone linked to my ETY Blu2. Love the hands-free opportunity and clarity of the calls. I work 8-5 M-F in the Operations Center of an electric utility so you can imagine the volume of calls, especially during adverse weather conditions. The stand-by and talk time are very adequate. Rated 4 out of 5 by Needs better wearability First of all, awesome product! The noise cancelling is superb and the sound is crisp and clear. This is the only area where the trouble lies, the product lacks comfort in wear because of the "slapped together" ear hook. Its like they ran out of ideas and creativity when it came to figuring out how the client will actually wear the unit. The metal hook falls out all the time, because the rubber holder expands and because the unit swings so much in the ear, I have to constantly adjust to keep it in place. We love the product and we've bought several units over the years. Great warranty program and awesome customer service!! PLEASE R&D figure out a better way to wear the unit and I will never ever leave! ;-) August 14, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Unbelieveable I do technical support calls for my business in the arena DURING an NHL hockey game using the Ety-Blu, no problem. Be sure the mic is near your mouth. If it's under your chin, the caller won't hear you. Not much on style but the performance is fabulous. July 13, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Great Technology - Shame about the ergonomics Whilst the headset technology is great it suffers from a number of major design faults.1 - The headset sits too far away from your head. On my head (and read instance on another Amazon UK review) the headset naturally sits about 10mm away from the skin and so ends up flapping about like a wet fish.2 - The main button is not easily located without removing the headset and looking. Try doing that whilst driving and needing to answer a call!3 - There is no audio notification of use of the main button. e.g. simple beep on power up or power down. Connection to Bluetooth device, etc.I bought it specifically for its noise cancellation and microphone cancellation capabilities when driving a soft top car and these work great. Just a shame that the poor ergonomics of the headset make it unusable. April 2, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by This is the best bluetooth headset period. After trying virtually every bluetooth headset on the market, the EtyBlu2 blows the other ones away. Absolute sound perfection. Can conduct business on a busy New York Street without missing a beat. Sure you can buy a bulky boom or a can type headset, but they are impractical for day to day business. I've purchased several just to keep a few for back-up. Yes they are that good. January 21, 2014
