Rated 2 out of 5 by Useless for intended purpose! I purchased this for a compact and readily available area lighting in my underground tornado shelter. Due to a defective switch, I have to remove a battery to turn the unit off which would cause the use of a flash light and screwdriver to install the previously removed battery. When our May 31,2013 tornado was bearing down on us, I discovered a flashlight was insufficient but better than this unit that remains on while all batteries are installed. I cannot return it because one has to destroy the packaging to extract the unit from the packaging. The design and concept are a great idea but component quality does not enable implementation of the "great concept". July 16, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Reliable and perfect I love my lanterns, I have 2, but wish they were rechargeable. Would they ever make these lanterns rechargeable? Are they still available as I can not find any in the Durban North area, and would like another 1 or 2. July 11, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by A well designed product that does the job I bought this at least 7 years ago and have used it for many power outages and emergencies. Still on original batteries. Through hurricanes, duregios(sp) and our regular nor easters this little bugger has been a real comfort. I happened to come on this site looking to buy two more for my adult children.p.s.: I've never rated anything this high before. July 2, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Bought one to try, great light, now own 4 Bought one to try out for camping. It works great. I went back to purchase 1 more for camping and 2 more for around the house when power goes out. The first one is now over 4 years old and only the second set batteries in it. When camping the light is used as night light and left on all night on low setting. The night light had to be shaded because it was too bright.I agree with the sliding power switch review. The shut off should be positive. Night light function is a good idea but not practical. A rotary dimmer switch would be much better. June 23, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by I LOVE this lantern.... I purchased this lantern a VERY long time ago (more than 4 years ago...I think...I can't remember anymore) and have yet to have to replace the batteries in it. I live in an area where we are prone to lose power from storms and tornadoes. I use it a lot and it performs very well each time. I am considering buying 2 more so that I can have one in the basement and one in my office. They are well worth the investment! March 15, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by This product has two frequently fatal design flaws First, the switch has 4 positions, in this order: Night light; off; flash; and on (or maybe the last two are low and high). Because the left-most position is not "off," it is all too easy to leave it in night-light position or for it to be bumped into that position (the switch isn't terribly clearly marked either), resulting in a dead battery. Who had the idea of making "off" an intermediate position? This is disastrous design.Second, to access the battery compartment you need a coin or a screwdriver, to turn two slotted latches. Easy, but if you happen to have neither along, you can't get at the batteries! Why not a finger-held raised tab? Again, poor design. January 17, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent light output This is a great product. My family and I used it for 4 days of no power due to Sandy. It was used in our living room, which it lit very well. We were able to play cards and board games on our dinning room table. I will be purchasing more for myself. Battery run time is excellent, since batteries in Staten Island were gone, this was extremely important to me. December 8, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Bought four more after Sandy Owned two prior to Sandy. Great help for the 5 1/2 days we were without power. Able to cook by the light provided by the two we had. Have not had to replace the batteries since purchasing the lights a couple of years ago. My wife loved them. Went out and bought four more after the local store resupplied from Sandy.
