Rated 5 out of 5 by I hv another one in green for easy can ID. They work great and look good side by side. Maybe I should collect them all? BTW, ( the can color is actually for Green -> leaded gas/Yellow ->diesel/Blue->kerosene/Red->unleaded gas/ White->water ) Just FYI. Cal November 9, 2012

Safe for diesel?

I have read several on-line sources that indicate diesel fuel should never be stored in a galvanized steel container. Apparently, the sulfur in the diesle fuel can react with the zinc in in container to cause small zinc particles to "flake" off into the fuel. Eventually, when the fuel is poured into your vehicle the zinc particles can damage the fuel injectors (and other components in the fuel system). Any validity to this? I'd much rather purchase a metal container than plastic, but I don't want to do so until I can satisty myself that the metal containers are safr for my vehicle. Thanks.

Answer:
The vendors website had the following information:

Eagle galvanized type-I safety cans meet OSHA and NFPA Code 30 requirements and are UL and ULC listed and FM approved for safe handling and storage of gasoline and other flammable liquids.

Eagle cans feature environmentally friendly Lead Free Technology, constructed of 24-gauge hot dipped galvanized steel.
