I am re-building a fiberglass yacht and would like to use several of the shapes instead of wood in the cabin as framework and then mechcanically attach my wood to them. Solves the trouble of creating attachment points on the hull. Will this stock stand up to this use? Anything I should know before starting which is unique to these products? Thanks Vince

Answer:
Grainger has contacted the product supplier and has been advised by them of the following: Grainger part number 4ATP7 is a good choice for this application. These square tubes are often used in highly corrosive applications where stainless steel and other expensive components were once required. These tubes also offer a higher strength to weight ratio than steel. When ever there is a cut made with this type of fiberglass, it must be sealed for corrosion protection. Standard polyester resin will be adequate, such as Grainger part number 3RAR4, (quart size).
