Rated 4 out of 5 by Not too big, easy to handle I like the variable speed and the easy chuck to switch accessories. September 22, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Did't last Received new 4200 yesterday, ran at no load for 5 min. to brake in brushes.Today I started a project (not heavy), and after about minutes of intermittent use it just stopped. Brushes were good, but it just quit! Not impressed, for the price you should get more than 5 minutes of use. September 11, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Worst Dremel I've had My 4200 Rotary worked fine for a few months then the E-Z chuck system stopped clasping the shafts on the wheels, brushes and other attachments. It's useless at this point and I'll get another manual chuck and key system like those of old and keep using them. August 27, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Stopped working, just one month old! I bought the 4200 Dremel about a month ago. It was great when it was working, but it just stopped working for no apparent reason. It is brand new. I've used it only a few times, just on the weekends. It will not switch on. I read the manual to look for possibilities. I checked the brushes which seem to be just fine. Again, it is brand new. The motor sounded fine and there were no apparent problems leading up to its abrupt stop. This is extremely disappointing, especially considering the cost of this tool vs. the one month life I got out of it. Now I have to deal with a repair. It was too expensive to just replace it. Of course it broke over the weekend and there is no customer service on the weekend. Most upsetting is that I'm not sure I can locate my receipt. When I purchased it, I was under the impression that the Dremel brand is very reputable and there would be no need to act on the manufacturer's warranty. August 24, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by 1 week of Failure I bought a dremel 4200 over the weekend, and it broke just yesterday. (refusal to turn on)This is also my first dremel tool, after recommendations by my peers. In the (half) week that this tool did work, I have been thoroughly disappointed in its performance. The disks do not cut as well as the other tools in my toolbox (even after rust), and as shown, the reliability was subpar. The first time I used it (on Monday), I tested it by cutting 1/4 in thick particle board (with the ThinCut disk), 1/4 in thick Lexan plastic (with the Plastic cutting disk). I then proceeded to try to cut the Lexan, but it took quite a while at low speeds (as to not melt the plastic). I ended up making the cuts faster and cleaner with a rusty hacksaw. On Tuesday, I used the larger engraving bit that came with the kit. It worked out fairly well, and I had no complaints with it. I attempted to use the A576 attachment, but it threaded improperly (by hand), and was quickly ruined. I also spent the greater part of an hour attempting to get the attachment off.I also attempted to cut the wood with the Thincut disks, but they were significantly slower than my handsaw. On Wednesday, I began the day by using the sanding drum. It did quite well before it shut down without warning, and I could no longer turn it on again. It has been in its box since. All in all, the dremel survived about 10 hours over the span of 3 days, and I am quite disappointed in this tool.I could give a more accurate review of the other attachments, such as the sanding disk, tungsten carbides and grinding bits.Notes:It does sanding and engraving fairly well, but cutting/milling should be done by other tools in my opinion. Rated 2 out of 5 by Can't believe how fast it broke just got it 2 days ago was carving wood and all a sudden it stopped can't believe how fast it broke I have only used it like 3 times August 12, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Gunsmithing Tool! I have always enjoyed rotary tools and switched from a competetor to this particular model Dremel. I have never been happier, it has the range I require for the different applications I use it for and always performs! The availability of parts and bits is fantastic. The only thing I dont like is how hot mine gets when I'm working. Still a great tool, I will suffice to say that the advantages trump my problem with the heat output. August 8, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great tool I purchased this in January 2014On July 22 I just stopped working in the middle of a job. I was unable to check the brushes as they would not come out of the tool.I have sent this tool back for replacementI hope the new one lasts longer than the old one. July 30, 2014
