Rated 4 out of 5 by Finding more uses than I thought I purchased this about a month ago to work on my son's Pinewood Derby car. It did the job, and I put it away. A few days later I was working on another project and ended up using my Dremel tool to cut some plastic flashing. Since then I've used it for trimming off a nail head, sanding, polishing, taking rust off an item for painting. May 29, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Not A Happy Customer Will not turn on again after I had used it intermittently for 2 to 3 hours. Same complaint as others on this site. Packaging it up today to send back to the Company. So unhappy with this product. I really did expect more from this company. I bought the extended warranty figuring it would work for at least the initial warranty....Who knew it would quit working within the first 5 hours. April 24, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Turns off randomly Hi,I bought a 8100 yesterday and I have the same problem that some of the other reviewers here have mentioned. The tool randomly turns itself off and moving the switch to the on positions does not always turn it back on. The tool is quite frustrating to use. March 17, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Design flaw, won't turn on consistently same problem as Diane, bought for grooming shop to dremel dogs nails, wouldnt turn on consistently, now it's dead, only had for two months, have to send back to Dremel Service now February 21, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Won't turn on I have the same issue Diane mentioned in her review "Design flaws?" Turning on the unit is a touch-and-go business. It took many, many retries to turn on the unit after I've used it a while. Even after waiting a bit for the unit to cool off, it still won't turn on. So, I don't think it is a safety feature at all. Rated 3 out of 5 by I finally bought me a new dremel After 10 years I finally bought me a new dremel and am somewhat disappointed. It seems that there is some problem with the on and off switch. Sometimes it will not turn on and it is very frustrating. Once I get it turned on it works just fine. Also I noticed that sometimes it will just stop for no reason what so ever so I have to turn it off and back on it before it will work. I probably should not have given my old one away and kept as a backup. January 17, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Design flaws? We purchased two of the dremel 8100 for use in our  grooming shop. Both have difficulty turning on consistently, one will not keep it's speed setting. This is possibly a switch problem. We need equipment that works every time. Unfortunately, I  am going to have to purchase a different product.  January 9, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by General Use. I already own the Dremel version of the Roto Zip high speed cutting tool but I wanted to do some detail work. Trying to hold this heavy version of the dremel tool and do detail work was very difficult. I decided to buy a cordless model after spending some time at the store I decided on the lighter weight and more comfortable 8100 I have used it primarily to carve hard wood to start. But once I had used it a few times I have moved my Roto Zip to the back of the cabinet and now grab the "cordless" when I have a quick job to do the tool less chuck is a HUGE help it makes changing bits a job of seconds vs minutes. I gave this tool an excellent rating because it works very well for me. I would suggest one thing and that would be a second battery. January 4, 2014
