Answer: 
Grainger has contacted the product supplier and has been advised by them of the following: Most DeWalt tools can take the lithium ion batteries in place of the NiCads, but you will also need to upgrade your charger as the NiCad chargers will not work with the Lithium batteries. There are a few tools however that will not work with the lithium batteries, so you may want to contact us to make sure they will work with your tool.

Answer: 
Yes it can but you will need to make sure your charger is compatible. The charger will say "Compact Lithium Ion" somewhere on the front or top if it is compatible. If it doesn't say this then it IS NOT compatible, and the battery will be ruined. lithium batteries charge much differently then NiCad and NIMH batteries.
