This item is a coolant recirculating system; it has a maximum operating pressure of 3.8 psi (9 head feet) at 6 gpm.

I have an application for the pump, but it may end up running without the flow for a bit (15 minutes per hour). Would the manufacturer have any comment on the ability to deadhead, or keep the fluid from flowing during that time?

Answer: 
Grainger has contacted the product supplier and has been advised by them of the following:

Unfortunately this pump is not designed to be run in a deadhead scenario. Additionally it is not designed to be run without fluid passing through it. The manufacturer states it should never be run in either of those situations, as the pump would be damaged.
