Per the vendors Operating Instructions and Parts Manual,the Dayton Oil Pump is designed specifically to transfer bulk oils, hydraulic fluid, antifreeze or antifreeze mixes. Pump should only be used with liquids compatible with pump component materials.

Grainger has contacted the product supplier and has been advised by them of the following:

You are correct; this pump does have a built in bypass for when the dispensing nozzle is closed.
