Rated 1 out of 5 by This shutter was recommended for my 24" fan that has a 30 " diameter. Framing with 2X8 boards so the fan can rest on the frame, the inside dimensions of the frame is 27". This fan is made for a 24" opening not a 27" opening. My mistake I am sure. November 2, 2013

Answer:
Each municipality has different rules and codes they enforce. I am not familiar with having insulation for a whole house fan shutter. You may want to visit your city hall to determine exactly what is required.

Some louvers open both directions from the middle and must be mounted horizontally. If they open from one direction only, the panel still functions if the panel is mounted vertically. As you can imagine, gravity still closes them.

Answer:
.Grainger has contacted the product supplier and has been advised by them of the following, this unit is only meant to be mounted horizontally when gravity is used to open and close it. To mount vertically you would need to add a shutter motor. Thank you for using Grainger Ask and Answer

CFM restriction

The lowest priced whole house fan we are looking at has a CFM of 3260 however the shutters have a max velocity of 2250 in every size we have looked at - which appears to be a problem. Is it? Or does the shutter ratchet down the CFM to an acceptable level.

Answer:
Grainger has contacted the product supplier and has been advised by them of the following.

I do not see the whole house fan you are looking at. However, the fan will be rated in CFM where the louver is rated in FPM max velocity. The two ratings are different and will not match. If you are looking at the matching louver for the fan it is sized to match. If you have more questions please call our HVAC tech support team at 800-472-4643.
