Rated 3 out of 5 by The kit appears to be durable and reasonably well made. The assembly instructions are not explicit and your mechanical aptitude will be called on to fill in the gaps.The mounting brackets in the kit are not those pictured in the instructions or in the online photos. While the online description says the fan can be mounted in any of four directions (up, down, left, right), the pre-drilled mounting bracket holes do not allow it to be mounted in the down draft postion. I had to find locations on the fan housing to drill holes for mounting bracket attachment, for a down draft mount.Finally, the included motor shaft belt shiv weighs about 2 3/4 pounds and appears to be out of balance. My application is mounted in a passive solar home, return air shaft made from concrete blocks, filled with mortor. The shaft is lined with 1" fiberglass sound board. Access to the fan is through a solid wood door, also lined with sound board. When the motor shiv is on the motor shaft with the motor running (coupled or uncoupled to the fan with the drive belt), there is an very audible "knock" heard in any room adjacent to the air shaft. Remove the shiv and the motor cannot be heard outside the air shaft. I plan to replace this shiv with a fixed radius, cast aluminum shiv. August 3, 2012
