Standard Hex Head Cap Screws

Available10,728 products

Hex head cap screws are common threaded fasteners with hexagonal heads, which are six-sided tops without indentations. These screws allow for greater torque than traditional circular screws and are installed or removed with socket wrenches. They do not require a nut for fastening and come in a variety of materials and finishes, such as black oxide, zinc plated, zinc yellow, armor coated, hot dipped galvanized, and chrome coated. Coated screws have varying degrees of corrosion resistance based on the type of environment in which they are installed. Hex head cap screws are designed to secure objects within or against other objects for a non-loosening hold. These screws may be fully or partially threaded. Fully threaded screws match up with a threaded hole all the way to their heads for gripping and anchoring thin surfaces. Partially threaded screws are tougher and have an unthreaded area under their head to allow for more holding strength when force is applied from the side.

Low Strength Steel Hex Head Cap Screws

Low Strength Steel Hex Head Cap Screws
Low strength hex cap screws are made from standard hardware-grade steel. Low strength screws can be used on metal or wood. They are a low-cost fastener for use in light-duty applications where the screw is not subject to extreme temperatures or stress. They come in a black oxide finish or may be zinc plated or hot-dipped galvanized for corrosion resistance. Black oxide screws are corrosion resistant in dry environments and zinc yellow screws resist corrosion in wet environments. Zinc plating helps provide durability in wet environments. Hot-dipped galvanized steel screws are more corrosion resistant than zinc-plated screws and have a thicker coating than other finishes.

Grade 5 Steel Hex Head Cap Screws

Grade 5 Steel Hex Head Cap Screws

Commonly used Grade 5 hex cap screws are heavier duty than Grade 2 steel options and are made from medium carbon steel and heat-treated. Grade 5 steel has 120,000 psi tensile strength and meets ASME B18.2.1 dimensional standards and SAE J429 material quality standards. These screws may be used in medium-duty applications. They come in a black oxide finish or may be zinc plated or chrome plated. Zinc plating helps provide durability in wet environments. Chrome plating increases the hardness, durability, and corrosion resistance of screws.

Grade 9 Steel Hex Head Cap Screws

Grade 9 Steel Hex Head Cap Screws

Grade 9 steel construction allows these hex head cap screws to have higher tensile strength and higher yield strength than Grade 8 steel. The Grade 9 screws maintain the highest clamp force available in a standard screw assembly and are used in the harshest environments including chemical applications. They come in a zinc yellow finish for corrosion resistance in wet environments.

Class 8.8 Steel Hex Head Cap Screws

Class 8.8 Steel Hex Head Cap Screws
Steel Class 8.8 hex cap screws are medium-duty, common fasteners used for joining manufacturing parts, repair parts, and construction materials. These screws are high tensile, quenched, and tempered. They are hard, yet malleable, allowing them to withstand sheer force. These screws come in a black oxide, zinc-plated or zinc yellow finish, or may be hot-dipped galvanized for stronger corrosion resistance. Black oxide screws are corrosion resistant in dry environments. Zinc plating and zinc yellow coatings help provide durability in wet environments. Hot-dipped galvanized steel screws are more corrosion resistant than zinc plated screws and have a thicker coating than other finishes.

Class 10.9 Steel Hex Head Cap Screws

Class 10.9 Steel Hex Head Cap Screws
These Class 10.9 hex head cap screws are heat-treated carbon and boron fasteners used in heavy-duty applications like joining automotive suspensions, attaching plumbing valves, and bolting forged iron pieces together. These screws are sold in black oxide, blue phosphate and zinc yellow finishes and have high-tensile strength and wear resistance for long-term durability. Black oxide screws are corrosion resistant in dry environments and zinc yellow screws resist corrosion in wet environments. Blue phosphate-dyed screws help distinguish metric screws from standard fractional fasteners.
