This fuse is designed to help in protecting against motor overload, ground fault, and short-circuits. It also helps to improve blackout prevention and offers protection against burnout from single phasing on three phase systems. When used in circuits subject to surge currents caused by motors, transformers, and other inductive components, the fuse can be sized close to full-load amperes for maximum overcurrent protection.

Its time-delay feature permits the use of smaller and less costly switches. The overload element provides protection against low-level overcurrent of overloads, and will hold an overload 5 times greater than the ampere rating of the fuse for a minimum of 10 seconds.
