Is the threaded port for the "All-Thread" closed on back side, or is the it an open "U"?

Grainger has contacted the product supplier and has been advised by them of the following:

You are correct, it is shaped much like the letter ‘U’, and the threaded rod can pass through if you like. It is threaded through the entire clamp.
