Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent I've owned my zoom 42" since 2009. I installed an aftermarket hour meter and Im right at 120 hours on the mower. I've changed the oil three times, the blades three times and the belt once. I mow 1.5 acres of flat terrain in roughly an hour. Take care of it and it will take care of you. My only complaints are that the deck height adjustment pin gets stuck sometimes and its pretty noisy. Other than that its fast and mows great. Seems to have quite a bit of power but its definitely not a brush hog. August 18, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Mower with just a couple of issues I have owned my Zoom 42 for 2 seasons. My overall opinion is that this a very well made machine for non commercial use. It has plenty of power, is very comfortable to operate and does a great job cutting my lawn. I have owned an Ariens snowblower for over 20 years with virtually no problems and this machine just reinforces my belief in this company.I have about 2/3 acre of grass with lots of trees and islands. Navigating around them is a breeze. If you have never used a zero turn mower before it will take a while to get the finesse needed to not tear up your sod. You cannot "zero turn" any zero turn mower without damaging your lawn. Even moving one drive wheel while the other is standing still will do some damage. But once you get the hang of it you will be very pleased!I have the bagger attachment and am not sorry I bought it. Some have complained that it easily clogs up. Yes, when cutting high grass you have to go much slower or it will clog. Come on, it's not blower assisted. How much force can you expect three blades to give?My lawn is all flat except for one corner of my property. I must turn right at this corner which goes up hill. When I pre-trim my lawn with a push mower I do this corner because the Ariens has gotten stuck because one wheel does not get enough traction and spins. So for those of you with hills, make sure you can somehow do a trial run.The only other complaint is that the hot muffler will burn a patch of your lawn if you stop for any more than 30 seconds. They make a heat shield you can buy. For the life of me I don't understand why it doesn't just come with it! I complained loudly to the local dealer from whom I purchased it and they got me one for no charge as a warranty related repair. Even with the shield I have had some minor burning if I park the hot machine on the grass. August 11, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by FANTASTIC!!!!!! I wanted to share my thoughts about the Ariens Zoom 42 I received yesterday. I have wanted a zero turn tractor for quite some time and wanted to treat myself due to me turning 50 years old in a few months. There are many zero turn tractors in the market place and I researched many online. I chose the Ariens Zoom 42 due to the high praise and positive remarks concerning this mower. When the trucking company arrived yesterday with my order I felt like a kid at Christmas. I ordered the mower from Mchenry Power Equipment in Mchenry Illinois online. The salesman Art was very helpful and professional. When I finally got the crate removed I was totally impressed with what I saw. The pictures I reviewed online did the mower no justice. The quality and craftsman ship A+++. I checked the oil and added fuel and boy did it come to life. The Kohler 20 HP engine was very smooth and strong. I tried the mower out today and the cutting performance and power were incredible!!! No bog and the mower zipped through with no trouble. Thanks Ariens for a great mower at a great price!!! Rated 5 out of 5 by By this mower Easy to drive. It took one mowing to get the hang of it but what fun. Looked at a Toro and others but the triple blade deck and reviews sold me on Ariens. Only Ariens had a 42" deck with three blades. The triple blades mows real nice. I bought some nice wheel covers for it. looks real cool. August 8, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by A fast mower I bought a Zoom 42 in June 2013 because it was narrow enough to mow around my many trees. I must say on a level lawn it is an amazing mower, very fast and easy to operate. However on a slight incline it is useless. The tires have no traction and you slide sideways out of control without having a brake. The only way to stop is to pull both levers back which makes the wheels spin backwards and hopefully you are not going to slide into something. I cannot mow the side ditches of my driveway with this machine. I have to mow them with my old tractor which totally has no problem with this slope. Another annoying thing is that the muffler is so close to the ground that it burns patches of grass at every turn or slow maneuver or god forbid stop on the lawn to do something else or run out of fuel for instance. The thing is you only notice it 2 days later. I was ready to return the mower only to find out there is a 25% restocking charge so I fixed the problem myself by manufacturing a heat shield and bolting it to the rear bumper. This is a huge design fault. The gas tank is also fairly small so you can mow for about 2 to 2-1/4 hours before running out of gas. There is no gas gauge visible from the seat so you have to keep track of your time to prevent running out of gas. If the company addresses these issues and rectify them it is definitely a good little machine for a perfect level yard. July 22, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by The machine runs great. The bagger stinks. The machine runs great. The bagger stinks. Constantly stopping to unplug it. Even after we pressure wash the undercarriage it still plugs up. June 17, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by The Zoom 42 makes it fun to cut lawn. Since I bought my Zoom the grass doesn't grow fast enough. Keeping my horse pasture trimmed takes 1/3 the time it used to. June 15, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good machine This is my first zero turn mower I've owed I had my 42' cut Zero Turn Ariens for a year. It had an oil leak at the lower end of the oil fill tube which was fixed at no charge for parts and labor, however pick-up and delivery of the mower was not covered. I just had a front tire go flat and had to have it replaced. My largest concern is the unit gets stuck easily in wet/soggy ground due to the weight of the mower or its smaller rear tire size. All-in-all the mower starts easily and cuts well and is a dream to ride. June 15, 2013
