Rated 4 out of 5 by Good mower, good value, built to last Mower is very good value for a commercial unit. It is well build and built to last. Starts on first or second very light pull and makes short work of even the thickest spots on my lawn. It is however heavy @ over 140lbs so best used on relatively flat surfaces but has plenty of rear wheel torque to go up hills. Only issue was the drive belt slipped off on the second use, was back up and running in 15 min thanks the detailed instruction manual. Speed leaver is really just meant to be at a fast pace walk not variable as it is difficult to hold at any speed other than full. All in all a quality product that I would recommend to someone looking for a well-built mower that should last for years. June 14, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Extremely well built and heavy duty I looked at all the 21" and 22" walk-behind mowers and the Ariens Pro 21 is by far the best built. If you want a made in USA and built to last mower, this is the one to get.The deck is heavy gauge steel, the wheels are steel (not plastic). The Kawasaki engine is designed and constructed like a motorcycle engine--easy to service and top quality materials. The self-propelled system drives the rear wheels and it works very well. The only caution is this mower is hefty because of the heavy gauge steel used in the deck and handle. It may not be the best choice for users who want something light-weight. June 14, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 3 is not enough 3 in one not work. If grass is about 3" none of the three functions work correctly. Have to stop every 20' or so to clear bottom. One blade doesn't fit all. Starter cord pulls out of retainer. Speed control not manageable. Taking plate out for side discharge extremely tricky- screw with square notch when slightly unscrewed spins and you have to force tight to unscrew & remove. June 13, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by OK mower for price The mower had issues from day one, support staff was very accommodating in sending new rear tires when the rubber came off the wheel. When I took it to the local dealer to get to the heart of the problem it was discovered that the drive gears were installed backwards, thus causing the wheel to lock up a few jobs into the day.It has not had issues since.I have used Ariens mowers in all their incarnations for the last 18 years and this seems to be a solid tool, but is not much fun to use.I bought a commercial Honda from the dealer who helped me figure out the Ariens problem .My regret is that I didn't go ahead and spend a couple hundred more in the first place and go with a Honda. The extra cost gives you vastly superior quality, and more importantly, enjoyable mowing. Rated 3 out of 5 by Dependable, good value mower, but weak on throttle control design. I found this mower to be good value and reliable in starting and mowing. My primary issue relates to a early problem with the throttle control design. The mechanism that connects control to main motor housing broke very early and I have had to improvise process to start and stop engine. June 12, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Mower-Definitely needs some improvements Every time I used it initially, the cotter pins would fall out then the metal pin. Sometimes I'd be able to see the brass pins, but gave up & bought several. The handles are atrocious! Doesn't take long before my hands ache maintaining 2 strips of metal together over the main bar. Some cushioning is required - or a fatter piece of hollow metal to minimize hand problems..Definitely pleased with it's performance! Starts immediately. It's powerful! Gets the job done quickly & well!! May 29, 2011
