Rated 5 out of 5 by Every DIY'er should have this for those electrical jobs Compact, easy to use and carry, even in tight places. Not exagerating when I say could be a life saver. March 31, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by This is a very robust non-contact tester I use this tool instead of a fluke the cost is much better and you don't get the annoying beep or constant flashing you get from other non- contact testers. This is a very good product and robust I have dropped mine from a knuckle boom and still it works. Great job guys. March 31, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by One of the handiest tools I have! We recently moved into a new house that had a bit of unfinished work. So when it came to tracking down the 220 lines in my garage, this is the tool I went for! I was told there was a 220 line but not sure where to look. This Volt Detector saved me from having to call a pro & pay them the min charge to track it down.Small, compact, fits nicely in my tiny tool box! I now use it every time I need to check whether a line is hot, 2 on my front porch were just hanging out of the wall, I found out that one of them was hot BEFORE my dog licked it! March 31, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Excellent Pocket device This volt tick is a great small device to avoid finding a live wire where you don't expect it. Not having to run and get the large tester or going to the circuit breaker panel to check every time is a god send. I highly recommend this procduct. March 30, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Handy Testeer Great tester! Fits well into most locations and in your toolbag. March 29, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by A Must Have This is as improtant in your pocket as your keys. I use this everyday to make sure the power is off when i am working. This tool will give you peace of mind that the breaker you shut off was the right one or that the other guy shut off the right breaker. Save lives and dont burn up parts buy a couple and keep around. Rated 4 out of 5 by I use it all the time This product I carry with me all the time and it's like not having a pen when I don't carry it?My reasons for using this is 1. cost (I have lost 2) 2. ease of use 3. small in size comes in so handy without needing a wiggy or VOR meter. My main concern is to double check and make sure all wires are dead before touching ANY wires? If your not sure GET A METER!Thanks Bruce January 4, 2012

Answer:
Grainger has contacted the product supplier and has been advised by them of the following: This unit will not detect current behind a sheet of metal. For this application you would have to move up to a circuit and wire tracing kit like the 1WXE8. The thickness of the metal may also be an issue. For further assistance, please call us at 1-800-323-0620.
